Oct 09: In 2013 we're going to see new emissions regulations in force in
the European Union. The new levels of CO2 compliance will be quite tough
for manufacturers to satisfy but already
Toyota's fuel efficient
vehicles have done it.
Toyota are the very first manufacturer to meet these new emission guidelines
and its yet another example of their dedication to being a green company.
Toyota are keen to spread the word that its not only their hybrid Prius
thats environmentally friendly, but the whole company. Toyota make some
very economical internal combustion engines which has no doubt helped in
achieving this latest accolade but there's another reason. Toyota do not
have any all out performance cars in their range. By not offering sports
cars they have managed to raise their fleets fuel efficiency and lower its
emissions. Toyota used to build sports cars such as the Supra and Celica
but the company were able to generate an eco-friendly reputation much easier
by culling these inefficient vehicles.
The new emissions laws for the E.U. will come into effect in the year 2013
and will be an average across each car makers fleet of 130 grams of carbon
dioxide per kilometre. Don't worry Ferrari fans, there will be a concession
for low volume car manufacturers. Since 130g is the average emission figure
that must be achieved, a car maker can build some cars that pollute more
than this as long as the average across all models is less than 130g. Toyota
have average emissions across all their models of 129.15 g/km of carbon
dioxide. Six of their vehicles emit less than 130g per km.
Toyota are yet again showing other car makers how environmental issues can
be addressed. Other manufacturers need to work harder to match the Japanese
maker of fuel efficient vehicles.
