You wanted an eco-friendly car, one of the most fuel efficient vehicles
around, so you bought yourself a 3 cylinder 1 litre micro car. The problem
is you're 5 cylinders short of the throbbing V8 you still secretly lust
over in this new environmentally aware world. There is a solution - SoundRacer.
Now even the
most fuel efficient vehicles can sound like
a V8 with SoundRacer. Its a device that plugs into your cars 12 volt outlet
and transmits a signal which you can tune into with your car radio. The
company says, 'the SoundRacer senses your car engine RPM's and matches it
with just the right V8 sound effects. Whether you're accelerating, decelerating,
shifting gear, cruising the highway or idling, you'll think you're driving
a genuine V8'.
The product was made in Sweden. I don't know how popular it is there but
I can't really see it taking off elsewhere. Maybe a few 17 year olds will
buy this gimmick for a bit of fun but personally I think it'll be quite
embarrassing to pull up at the lights in a Mazda 2 that sounds like a V8.
It'll certainly be embarrassing when the lights go green and you show the
world the power of your 'V8'. I think the best this company can hope for
is a passing fad, but its good to know you can make the most fuel efficient
vehicles sound like V8's.
